Men In The Sky – Men In The Sky

Formed in 2012, Men In The Sky fuse atmospheric synth melodies with driving guitars to produce innovative electronica that draws as much from the jazz-blues of Jeff Beck and the funk of Chic as it does from classic British New Wave.

Men In The Sky’s eloquently sparse production aesthetic echoes the classic 1980s output of New Order and the iconic work of super-producer Trevor Horn, while the band’s guitars recall Depeche Mode’s venture into rockier, grittier territory in the late 80s / early 90s. It is fitting, then, that a chance meeting in a rehearsal space has led to Men In The Sky working with New Order engineer Michael Johnson, a key part of the team which produced the biggest selling 12 inch single of all time, “Blue Monday”.

“Expect Anything” seamlessly combines samples and dance-orientated synth signatures with lamenting guitar riffs to produce a thoroughly modern, original sound that still manages to take the listener back to the exciting vibe of the thriving club scene at the start of the 1990s, when the extended mix was king and advances in technology enabled artists at the forefront of electronica to begin experimenting with elements of many different genres. It is an innovative sound that will feature throughout Men In The Sky’s forthcoming digital release.

Another track, “Doom”, delivers a stomping rhythm track and catchy, minor-key hooks that wouldn’t sound out of place lined up between New Order’s “Bizarre Love Triangle” and one of Alan Wilder’s Recoil remixes.
