A song full of hope, fantasy and desires, ‘Bedroom Hero’ the new single from British songwriter Liz Lawrence encapsulates the bedroom songwriter: their hopes, fears, victories and demise, looking out to the world beyond the bedroom.
The song builds endearingly from a simple opening melody with Lawrence’s instantly gratifying soaring vocals and gentle acoustic guitar into the fully realized bedroom songwriter vision with a full production replete with perfect harmonies, strings, piano, marching drums and brass section calling out, taking the listener into a timeless daydream.
Liz has achieved a great deal since penning ‘Bedroom Hero’ as a teen studying at art School in Devon. Still only 22, with her publishing being snapped up by Sony/ATV and with the independent release of her debut album (also entitled ‘Bedroom Hero’) in The Republic Of Ireland earlier this year garnering critical acclaim. The Irish Times stating the songs as “Bulletproof” and The Irish Independent classifying her as “one to watch”, Liz is made waves with national and regional radio support followed by a headline tour earlier this year. Her debut single ‘Oo song’ gained playlisting in Ireland on RTE and its video was chosen to be shown on Topshop TV in stores around the UK . From this buzz the track ‘Bedroom Hero’ has already gained support from Amazing Radio and Absolute Radio.
Her live shows have been described as mesmerizing and feisty, and her precociousness (which harkens back to her teen days in garage punk bands) makes for a compelling performance. Liz has shared the stage with brilliant artists such as Ben Howard, The Civil Wars, Scouting for Girls, Xavier Rudd, Brooke Fraser, Young the Giant and Ani Difranco. Recently she has also found loyal pockets of fans in Germany after support slots with Milow warranting a 3 track live EP ‘Live at No.83’ release on Young & Lost Records.
‘Bedroom Hero’ triumphantly marches with an ever pervading sense of melancholy as Liz describes youthful fragilities of someone finding their way in the world such as times denying being ‘too drunk to remember’ and ‘mistaking airplanes for stars’ but with her recent successes suggests that Liz could be one to make it permanently from her bedroom to a career as a writer and performer destined to make evermore exciting, fresh and honest music.
Liz is scheduled to be touring the UK in Jan / Feb 2013 before releasing her debut album “Bedroom Hero” next year.
