Fatoumata Diawara Releases Video For New Single “Bissa”

Above is Fatoumata Diawara's video for “Bissa”, taken from her debut album Fatou, released September 19th.

One of the stars at this year's WOMAD, Fatou has already gained the young Malian singer critical acclaimed, it being named Debut Album of the Month in Uncut.

Born in Côte d’Ivoire, raised in Mali and now based in Paris, 29 year old Fatoumata has fought her parent's opposition to her artistic ambitions and the cultural prejudice faced by women across Africa, and is a recent addition to the Africa Express stage at this year's Standon Calling.

Diawara has also announced a headline show at Camden's Jazz Cafe on October 13th.
