Jodie Marie releases her debut single “Single Black Canvas” on July 4th, followed by her first London show on July 6th at St Bernard's Church.
Her debut show this week in Cardiff was to a packed out crowd at Ten Feet Tall, coinciding with the release of the video (above) for the new single.
Raised in Narberth, Wales – Jodie was brought up on a steady diet of blues and Bonnie Raitt, eluding to her influences and explaining her anti-pop sound.
Discovered by Transgressive Management – the team behind Johnny Flynn, Foals and The Noisettes – Toby L's father was in a pub, loudly talking about his son's involvement in the music industry. The landlady instructed him to check out the local plumber's daughter's music. Sometimes, things are just meant to be.
Before long, Jodie was in the studio with Bernard Butler (Duffy, Suede) and Ed Harcourt (Paloma Faith) crafting a debut album. Signed to Decca to relaunch the classic Verve label – she follows a strong lineage of artists, from Nina Simone and Billie Holliday to the Velvet Underground.
