Famed for their amazing low-budget videos and following their rather-fine teaser last week, Matt & Kim have unveiled the highly-anticipated video for their new single 'Cameras' – out on the 21st March via Different Records.
The video has already climbed to #4 on the MTV Hot Videos Chart as well as taking the #1 MTV Picks slot. 44k+ plays on YT and counting.
'Cameras' is the first single from Matt & Kim's forthcoming new album 'Sidewalks' which is out on the 4th April 2011.
Having debuted in the US iTunes Alternative chart at #1, the iTunes Mainstream chart at #3 and the Billboard Top 200 at #30, New York duo Matt & Kim’s third full-length LP, ‘Sidewalks' combines the best of Matt & Kim’s talents: their destructive dance-punk melodies, thunderous drumming and off-beat lyrics.
The album was written by Matt and Kim and recorded with producers Ben Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective, Beastie Boys, Deerhunter) and Oliver Straus in Atlanta and New York respectively and will be released through Different Recordings.
The lead track ‘Cameras’ due for release on March 21st is instantly infectious with its multiple synth lines, rhythmic chords and hip-hop inspired percussion. Elsewhere on the album, ‘Red Paint’ demonstrates the duos skill for complex arrangements and intelligent lyricism and opening track ‘Block After Block’ speeds along with hand claps, shouts and rolling drums. ‘Sidewalks’ reveals a more reflective side to the duo than on previous outings and the nostalgic lyrics of ‘Where You’re Coming From’ and ‘Northeast’ are offset by subdued synths and gentle percussion – ‘Sidewalks’ is a joyous return for Brooklyn’s most fascinating couple.
Having met at Pratt Institute, where they were both finishing art degrees, Matt (keys) and Kim (drums) joined forces despite the couples’ then inability to play their instruments. The two-piece soon began picking up support that culminated in the release of their sophomore album ‘Grand’ which has now sold over 120k records (along with previous single ‘Daylight’ fast approaching 600k sales). They remain closely involved in all the visual elements of the band. Kim designs the album covers and band merch. Matt develops the concepts for their music videos, including ‘Lessons Learned,’ which saw Matt & Kim stripping naked in Times Square and won them a MTV VMA for Breakthrough Video not to mention the ‘Fight Club’ inspired clip for ‘Cameras’ which is lighting up the various video channels since its debut on MTV last week.
