July 2010 saw London duo Mount Kimbie release their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Crooks and Lovers’, it has defined them as an original and exceptional act whose musical output refuses to be pigeonholed. Abundant in paradoxes, the album floats through dubstep and hip-hop, jazz, techno, post-rock, UK garage and film scores to startling effect.
Having earned themselves several slots on Album of the Year polls including being shortlisted for The Guardian‘s First Album Award, Dominic Maker and Kai Campos have announced their biggest headline show yet, at Heaven on 28th April. They have also been invited to perform at Giles Peterson’s prestigious World Wide Awards at KOKO on 22nd January, before they set off on their debut tour of Australia.
The photographer and filmmaker Tyrone Lebon, who also produced Mount Kimbie’s album artwork and press shots, has created a stunning new video for ‘Before I Move Off’. Made up of over 2500 carefully considered 35mm photographs, the video documents Tyrone’s 2 week trip from Turin – where Mount Kimbie played live – onto Shanghai, Bangkok, Tokyo, LA and NY. This visual feast perfectly accompanies the depth and beauty of the music.
“We really enjoy working with Tyrone. I think it works because he's so interested in not just making a music video for the song but creating something that he is proud of and is as much to do with himself as an artist. I'm not a visual artist so I've really enjoyed discussing ideas and just chatting to Tyrone and then leaving him to get on with his work independently. He can keep up with tour-levels of drinking as well which always brings people together – the first 19 seconds of the video include us having a good time in Turin where Tyrone left me the single best answer phone message/song I've ever received at 5am.” Mount Kimbie
