Ahead of the unveiling of the full official video for Cee Lo Green’s next single, ‘It’s OK’, Cee Lo has released another lyric-video as a taster of the new track as he did with ‘F*** You’ (which has now had 7m+ plays on youtube)
Following the huge global success of ‘F**k You’ which spent two weeks at #1 and is fast approaching 400,000 sales in the UK alone, Cee Lo Green releases his new single ‘It’s OK’ on December 13th on Warner Bros. Records. ‘It’s OK’ has become an overnight viral smash with the video currently #3 Most Viewed Video in the World on Youtube.
Co-produced by Paul Epworth, ‘It’s OK’ reiterates Green’s status as both the greatest male voice in American music today and the definitive talisman of modern pop-soul. Like ‘F**k You’ (and its radio version, ‘Forget You’), ‘It’s OK’ features on his eagerly anticipated upcoming album ‘The Lady Killer’ that will be released on November 8th.
Featuring collaborators including Salaam Remi and Fraser T. Smith, ‘The Lady Killer’ is the album Cee Lo was destined to make. It will seal his rep: not only as a writer, producer and performer of unrivalled pizzazz, chutzpah, inventiveness and genius; but as a singer whose voice can nail an emotion – be it pain, yearning, anger, sarcasm, love, lust, frustration – like no other. Cee Lo Green stands alone.
Listen to ‘Wildflower’ or ‘I Want You’, two songs of heart-stopping tenderness and longing. To ‘Cry Baby’, a summer breeze of a song whose melodic lushness and optimism utterly belie the sentiment it expresses. To ‘Bodies’, a Chad Hugo co-production that sets Cee Lo’s film-noir lyric to an appropriately ghostly backing, all sinuous guitar and military-tattoo percussion. And listen, too, to ‘F**k You’ and ask yourself this: chuckle-inducing profanity aside, has there ever been a more uncompromising, more defiantly sung I’m-so-over-you pop song? Why do we believe in that defiance? Because Cee Lo sings it like he means it.
Since becoming the biggest viral sensation of the summer, the clean version of ‘F**k You’ (‘Forget You’) has progressed to being one of the biggest hits of the year as it went straight to the top of the charts with over 100,000 sales. It sold over 34,000 copies more than its nearest challenger, Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow’s ‘Shame’. The track is also firmly established as one of the biggest airplay hits of the year after gaining the biggest audience of any song in the past ten weeks. Cee Lo also recently starred on Later with Jools Holland where he performed ‘F**k You’ and ‘Old Fashioned’ to an audience of almost 900,000.
The lyrics video for ‘F**k You’ became an online sensation as it received over 1 million views in the first 48 hours after its upload and almost 7 million in total, and was immediately established as the UK’s #1 most viewed music video. The international response was equally astonishing as it progressed to become the global top favourited video and the worldwide most discussed video. And not only did the track hit #1 at Hype Machine, but it also hit the website’s Top 40 in another five positions.
The subsequent official video for the single has since passed 12.5 million views, giving the two videos a combined YouTube audience close to 20 million.
