If you like a cracking melody, orchestration that puts in mind Pet Sounds and a thought provoking lyric then Gold Sounds are for you. Their debut EP, the “Home Schooled EP” (released through CRC Music) is a collection of four songs that balance the soaring harmonies of the sweet, “You’re a Vision” and the fun of “So It Goes” with the bound of “Prints”, all wrapped up with the lyrical sagacity of “Sneinton Boulevard”.
Taken from the title of a song on their musical muses, Pavement’s, highly acclaimed album “Crooked Rain”, the name Gold Sounds could not be more befitting for this boundless five piece. Originally stemming from the musical partnership of George Napthine (lead vocals & guitar) and William Reid (bass & vocals), forged on the autumnal streets of Nottingham UK, Gold Sounds are completed by John Barrett (drums), James Johnston (keys) and Matthew Williams (guitar & vocals). And not content with just a quintet for this recording, the boys recruited all their musical mates to form the Gold Sounds Orchestra. Woodwind and brass galore tumble joyfully through the title track ‘So It Goes’ like an Alka Seltzer in Ribena. There's even a lute….
