Devil Sold His Soul – Belong ? Betray

Dramatic strings open the new EP by southern six-piece, Devil Sold His Soul; first track ‘Devastator’ is a captivating sonic statement of intent – the thundering riffs are perfectly balanced by the eerie ambience of the strings, and the roar of new vocalist Paul Green’s voice.

The second track, ‘Time’ is equally as epic – the song is the band’s latest single, and a great representation of their sound with their new frontman. It’s clear from the first that Devil Sold His Soul have hit upon something special here; the album is brilliantly recorded, mixed and produced (by guitarist Jonny Renshaw) and the noticeable change in their sound marks them as a band to watch.

Standout track is the atmospheric EP closer ‘Alive’ – solidifying the band’s rebirth, and their newer, more ambitious sound. The five-track EP is an overwhelmingly good offering – on a second, third, fourth, tenth listen, it feels just as fresh and exciting as it did the first time; the band’s lyrics are evocative and expressive, and written for loud, rousing sing-alongs already.

This EP is a stunning collection of songs, and definitely one to listen to (on a loop) with noise-cancelling headphones, when the world needs drowning out, for sure.
