Moose Blood – I’ll Keep You In Mind, From Time To Time

Having formed only a short two years ago, Moose Blood have somehow created a name for themselves, one which carries an amount of anticipation and hype. Through the way of endless touring and increasingly impressive EP releases, the foursome have now delivered their first full length album. And our lives are all the richer for it.

Recorded in the States with Saosin veteran Beau Burchell, I’ll Keep You In Mind, From Time To Time is a 35 minute showcase of heartache, and how gloriously it can be constructed. The bookend tracks tell completely different tales; ‘Cherry’ detailing lead singer Eddy Brewerton’s wish for an old girl, while with album closer ‘I Hope You’re Miserable’, it’s all in the title.

Upbeat lead single ‘Anyway’ is an honourable mention toward misery done gleefully. Indeed, it is in much the same vein as the tracks we’ve already heard, such as ‘Boston’ and ‘Bukowski’ from previous EPs, but they too have been given an extra thump in their production on this record.

Possibly the best track on the album is ‘Pups’, which somehow grabs the butterfly’s straight from your stomach, the ones that were there when you saw him/her for the first time, and put that feeling into a song. And it needs to be said that ‘Kelly Kapowski’ might be the best name of a song in all time. Saved by the bell, indeed.

There is such a thing as too much praise, but when a band like Moose Blood somehow live up to the hype, it’s tough not to smile. An earnest effort, one to be proud of, and one definitely worth a listen. With 3 months left, an album of the year shout might be a bit over zealous. But it is up there.
