Such Gold – Misadventures

Such Gold are at that arguably critical point of their career: the debut album titled Misadventures. The melodic hardcore/punk outfit have always been well received, named as ones to watch out for and rightly so; this record is fresh, edgy and so energetic that it is bound to brighten up anybody’s day, producing a very accessible sound that stands out from the crowd.

A fast paced, upbeat riff opens the record in the form of “Two Year Plan,” soon complimented by bullet-speed percussion and strong, raw vocals which continue rapidly throughout the whole track. Full to the brim with captivating rhythms that just beg for movement, there is a sense of aggressiveness within the track; but this is completely opposed by the fun loving vibe that oozes through at the same time. This could be said for most of the tracks on Misadventures, including “Committee Circus,” which particularly solidifies backing vocals as a key standout section of the track.

Offerings such as “Another Day” and “Understand And Forget” continue to exert a powerful force with rapid percussion, perfected melodies and an overall aggressive vibe, with raw vocals really emphasising this; techniques that Such Gold hit the nail on the head with, reiterating both the melodic hardcore and punk genres that the band combine.

Just when you think that the percussion couldn’t get any faster “Locked Out of the Magic Theater” proves you wrong, providing an almost excessive energy that makes you question how on earth it is possible; yet somehow it is and it is fantastically executed. Complimented by the always enthusiastic riffs and edgy vocals this is a definite standout track on the record. Closing with “You Are The Greatest Threat (The Doctor Will Serve You Now),” Misadventures is drawn to a memorable close, continuing with everything that Such Gold have done best throughout the whole record and featuring a calmer melodic section, along with great backing vocals that beg for listener involvement.

Such Gold really have excelled with this debut record; it truly represents their sound, combining elements of melodic hardcore with many technicalities, along with the rapidness of their punk influences. Misadventures is an absolute pleasure to listen to and Such Gold are, as previously boasted, ones to watch out for.
