Blood Red Shoes – The Water EP

Fresh off their UK tour with punk rockers ‘The Gaslight Anthem’, Brighton based rock duo ‘Blood Red Shoes’ are gearing up for 2013 with the release of their new EP, ‘Water’. With three albums already under their belt, including ‘Box of Secrets’ (2008), ‘Fire Like This’ (2010) and the more recent ‘In Time To Voices’ (2012), the ‘Water’ EP, serves as a worthy follow up, showcasing some classic rock riffs and pure rock ‘n’ roll vibes. Recorded in Dallas, Texas by Grammy nominated producer John Congleton, ‘Water’ will be released both digitally and on limited 10” vinyl on January 21st.

‘Red River’ opens with the suspenseful drone of the guitar, before launching full steam ahead with fizzing guitar riffs from Laura-Mary Carter and crashing drums from Steve Ansell, allowing the duo to revert back to their post grunge roots. With some catchy hooks and repetitive lyrics including ‘Take me back home’ and ‘Give it up again’, this is one track that will no doubt stay in your head for the rest of the day. ‘Black Distractions’, which is available as a free download, sees Ansell take lead vocals in this all out heavy rock track. The shortest track on the EP, lasting 2.40, serves up an edgy distortion of sounds with fuzzing pedals and distinct guitar riffs running throughout. Such an amped up heavy vibe, it’s hard to believe it’s just the two of them. The EP closes with ‘Idle Hands’, where Ansel once again takes lead vocals. The track seems to build upon the same repetitive hook and killer riff, as it gradually builds to a crashing noisy crescendo. The duo skilfully bring a live energy to the forefront of the record and deliver an all out rocky and edgy EP.
