I Call Fives – Self Titled

I Call Fives are a Washington Township, New Jersey band, that have been together since 2006. Playing countless basement shows and only just being a part of Vans Warped Tour, the band has been all over the States, but in the length that they’ve been together they’re only just releasing a full length and it’s definitely a long time coming.
The self-titled album is what I’d call ‘My First pop punk’. It’s more appealing for fans of a younger generation, and I can’t imagine dedicated fans of the genre to be too impressed. ‘Stuck in ‘03’ is a track on the album and certainly describes the release as being stuck in ‘03; the year I’d have been thirteen and an appropriate age to enjoy this album a lot more.

I wasn’t blown away by any track in particular, in fact I found myself wondering if maybe it was possible for bands to create pop punk that doesn’t sound so alike. With repetitive structures and lyrics that you could call PG friendly, the album did not get my attention. I Call Fives’ latest release is not terrible, but I can understand why there isn’t much buzz about them.

There is definitely potential for this band, especially in the UK and maybe soon fans all over will be hearing songs in pop punk club nights, nevertheless for now I just can’t see a lot of audiences going out of their way to see this band if they ever landed on UK soil.
