Jakwob – Right Beside You

Already having over 15 Dubstep remixes under his belt, James “Jakwob” Jacob returns with his much anticipated 2nd single; “Right Beside You” feat. Smiler. The track fuses Jakwob’s signature sound with the sweet verse of up and coming London rapper Smiler.

The track itself is fairly subdued, but don’t let this put you off. Too many Dubstep-Rap tracks recently have tried to combine heavy bass-lines with rapping, losing the clarity of both. “Right Beside You” combines an addictive rhythm and melody with some cleverly written lyrics to create a track that shows off UK talent profusely. An asian sounding violin lick forms fitting bridge sections and the pure and gentle hook rounds off the track nicely.

What I liked about this track most was its subtlety whilst still remaining intricate. Jakwob has produced a track with each element sitting nicely against the other. There are sections of textbook Jakwob bass-lines but these sit next to the rap and hook sections. I have followed Jakwob for some time and this does show his “other side” and serves to bolster his reputation for creative talent.

Released today (20th June) via Boomting/ Mercury Records this track is already turning heads on the scene. It is my understanding that an EP will follow shortly, if this track is anything to go by, it’ll be massive.
