It’s a sad state of affairs when after being lauded as one of the best punk bands to come out of Scotland for long time, being praised highly by the NME and being called the Scottish Libertines that your support band performs better than you. Tonight Matthew, that is The View.
Sound of Guns were the band to give the “I Don’t Give a Fuck” punk attitude tonight as Andrew Metcalfe shouts: “If you’re going to throw something at least hit me” as a plastic cup misses him. Architects and Lightspeed were the highlights of the night as Andrew climbs to the front of the crowd getting perfect connectivity as he shakes hands before getting on the speaker stacks.
The View tonight should have been everything that Sound of Guns were. Sure there’s an air of nostalgia tonight with Superstar Tradesman and opener Wasteland. Sure the mosh pit looks pretty wild as dozens of people pummel around aimlessly but there’s a sense that the View have become dull and out of touch with the crowd. There’s a lack of charisma to the Soctsmen tonight and ironically like “Same Jeans” everything is still the same old bland song.
Kyle Falconer and Andrew Metcalfe both look like similar versions of each other tonight with their long and moppy curly hair. Tonight one is better than the other. Chants of “The View, The View, The View are on fire” rush around the room. Unfortunately The View aren’t on fire tonight.
