Fearless Vampire Killers – In Grandomina…

Similarly to My Passion, London’s death pop/punk misfits Fearless Vampire Killers are a very visual and theatrical five piece, but convey this in a totally different manner.

If you’re starting to think the only thing the guys care about is just the way they look then you’ve got it completely wrong. Their concept debut EP, In Grandomina is fuelled with heavy soaring guitars with contradictive poppy hooks combined to create a huge sound.

It’s lyrical content is metaphorical, creating their own fictional world. The music reflects their image, providing their music with maturity and almost an old fashioned like feel, but in a cleverly creative way.

The hit song on the record is “Palace Of Flames” which I feel captures the essence of what the band represent in two and half minutes. Its emphasis is on Laurence’s vocals, as he focuses on telling a story, and you really get that from listening to the record throughout.

One aspect they really excel at is their use of harmonies, which is most noticeable in “Don Teriesto” which is the tool for bringing the song truly alive.

It features an interlude which sounds like the music you’d find accompanying a horror film. As much as it ties in with their sound and image very well, I would have liked to of heard another track on the EP as I do find their music quite appealing and it would have been great to hear some more songs.

But as they leave you hungry for more, I think In Grandomina is a great start and I look forward to seeing how these boys do as I feel they’re on the verge of creating something huge…
