Liam Bailey – O2 Academy, Liverpool

Liam’s latest gig sees him supporting Chase & Status on their UK tour in Liverpool’s 02 Academy. I must confess, I hadn’t heard Liam’s music prior to attending the gig but I was blown away.

Opening with ‘You Better Leave Me’, Liam and his live band charmed the crowd with a perfect mix of soul and blues from the outset. He showed his versatility moving across musical genres whilst maintaining his individuality with a funk and jazz infused track. After a couple of shout outs to the crowd and a couple of lustful cheers from the ladies in attendance for his drummer, Liam moved onto his next song which was a beautiful soul track which pulled at your emotional heart strings.

Supporting Chase & Status on their UK tour must not have been easy for Liam as his music does not fit the mould they do and as the venue was reaching capacity a very small group of lads began to boo Liam. Instead of crumbling under the heckles, it inspired him to complete his set in rousing fashion, gathering support from the overall majority of the crowd.

With stand out tracks such as ‘Summer Rain’ and ‘It’s Not The Same’ I can see Liam bulldozing his way into the public eye very soon. With backing from Amy Winehouse, having been signed to her ‘Lioness’ label, 2011 could be a big year for Liam Bailey.
