Having missed the opportunity to catch AC/DC when they were over here last year it seemed fitting that I at least check out the DVD for their last tour – and here it is in all its high definition glory in Live at River Plate.
There isn’t anything too fancy about this release other than it being a live show but the definition of the filming stands out well on a big screen – and sounds great too. True you may giggle at the age of a band still out there rocking their hits – but considering that most of the bands that have been rocking this long are still truly the masters of the stage, I never had any issue with how thin or grey haired some of the band members are. Brian Johnson still carries his tunes well and the rest of the band still know how to play the music.
There is an animated short (that opened the show) as well as a half hour mini doc which has everything from backstage footage, interview excerpts from the band and hype from the fans about to see the show.
If you are going to release a great looking and sounding disc on a rock band then AC/DC is not a bad place to start. Just looking at the set list of tunes for this show is any metal fans heaven! Right from the early material right up to the tunes they did for the second Iron Man film are here. OK, Big Gun (from Last Action Hero) is missing – but I don’t think too many people miss that one.
If anything is guaranteed – it’s that I’ll make sure to get myself a ticket next time!
