I’ve never personally had the ‘Everything Everything’ bug, having seen them a few times in the past, I always walked out feeling discontented and though I should have got more out of their performance. Luckily though, last night at Rough Trade, things ended differently.
With an audience of 200, Rough Trade In-stores are always a lovely intimate affair, it allows people to see bands in ways they wouldn’t normally, with a different perspective in many ways. The band seemed pretty up for the gig, with good attitudes and smiles all round.
The band started there set with good energy, while the head bobbers in the audience nodded along in duly satisfaction. The room a haze of childish ecstasy, Everything Everything settled into their first track, followed in due course with another noise powerful band orientated piece. Vocalist John Higgs then announced a track called ‘Tin’ off the new album, which set a more electronic tone to things, followed by hit single, ‘My KZ, Ur BF’ and then topped off with ‘Schoolin’.
Although the band only played a short set, their performance changed a view which had stood firm for a good year, that they can perform both live and on record fairly well. Though not to my taste, the hype around them is deserved and they should be down as one of your bands to see this year. With an upcoming tour to follow the release of the new record, ‘Man Alive’, they’re set to dazzle minds across the country this Autumn.
