Ali Love – Smoke And Mirrors

As a result largely of lazy journalism, ‘indie-‘ has been used to prefix for just about every musical genre in recent years. If the guy playing the Hungarian folk music happens to have asymmetrical hair and drainpipes, it becomes indie Hungarian Folk music. What Ali Love does is undeniably in the more popular crossover genre of indie-dance.

New single ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ is an excitingly anachronistic offering, riding an angular electro beat and jagged synth lines. Love’s vocals are hooky and infectious and the whole thing belongs shamelessly to the eighties. This is a good thing. I sincerely hope that soon the opening bars of this song will prompt dancefloors to flood with bodies at clubs up and down the country.
