He might not quite look it, but Toronto songwriter Marker Starling, real name Chris A. Cummings, could well be on his way to the top with his new album ‘Rosy Maze’ released 30th March on Tin Angel Records.
This unconventional pop writer specialises in wistful, baroque, soulful stuff that recalls Van Morrison, Burt Bacharach, Lambchop and Divine Comedy. Recorded across four years and written across fifteen, the record – Cummings’ first as Marker Starling – has slow-burned into existence, maturing with its maker, who became a dad for the first time during its conception.
“I wanted to capture the feeling of weather changing, the moodiness of the sky,” concludes Cummings on his overarching thematic vision for the record.
