13.01.15 – Festival News Round Up

We’re starting to see some of the major players on the festival circuit gearing up for their 2015 announcements now, notably the American behemoth of SXSW who make their third round of announcements this week. Alongside that, we’ve got news from some of the UK’s best small rock festivals and Norwegian showcase extravaganza by:Larm.

Isle of Wight Festival 2015

As the first major festival of the summer, The Isle of Wight Festival has revealed fourteen brand new acts for this year’s event in celebration of the first week of the brand new year.

James, Imelda May, Paul Oakenfold, Courteeners, Suzanne Vega, Ash, Sharon Corr, Foxes, Lightning Seeds, Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band, The View, UB40’s Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue, Ian Anderson plays the best of Jethro Tull and La Femme are all confirmed to perform over the weekend of 11-14 June.

These acts join the already announced Fleetwood Mac, The Prodigy, The Black Keys, Pharrell Williams and Paolo Nutini for what is already shaping up to be the hottest ticket for the summer. Tickets are on sale now from www.isleofwightfestival.com

Takedown Festival 2015

Last year Takedown ran an online competition for an unsigned band to play at the event, which saw dozens-upon-dozens of bands from the length and breadth of the UK apply.

The ‘Your Band Here’ comp for Takedown 2015 is now here – they’re calling for unsigned bands across the UK to submit themselves to win a prime time 7pm slot on the Southampton Music Stage. For full details on how to enter bands should visit – www.facebook.com/events/774180442636704

Final stage announcements will be made on Friday 16th January.

Hevy Fest 2015

Hevy Fest are giving two bands the exciting opportunity to join their line up in 2015. The festival – which whet appetites with the announcement of Dillinger Escape Plan, Monuments, Vales, Grader, Up River, Ohhms and Collisions in December – has opened band submissions until Friday 23rd January, when a short-list of eight will be selected to go through to a public vote. The two winning bands will secure a slot at Hevy Fest 2015.

Hevy Fest takes place at Port Lympne on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th of August, with weekend camping tickets at only £69.

The start of the Nordic festival season is less than two months away and as the countdown to by:Larm begins, the festival has today revealed the next wave of acts set to perform at the event. From March 4 to March 7, the very best of Nordic music scene will gather in the heart of Oslo for Norway’s premier music showcase festival by:Larm.

Carl Louis (NO), Carnival Kids (NO), Hey Elbow (SE), Pretty Vicious (WA), Rae Morris (UK), Sivas (DK), Sylvan Esso (US), Ukendt Kunstner (DK) and
Västerbron (SE) all join the line up this week.

South By South West 2015

Austin’s famous South by Southwest (SXSW) festival have announced a third round of artists invited to perform at the 29th edition of the SXSW Music Festival taking place March 17 – 22 in Texas, bringing the total number of bands announced so far to 965 and still counting.

Stand out new names include Marmozets, Krill, Ben Arthur, The Maine, Black Onassis, Blitz Kids, More Than Conquerors, Marina & The Diamonds, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Circa Waves, Clean Bandit, Palma Violets, Mikhael Paskalev, God Damn, Girl Band, Girlpool, Jaws and a whole host of others.
