Coming in as a late contender for biggest indie-pop anthem of the year is this stunning new single from Lake Malawi.

‘Chinese Trees’ is the kind of anthemic heartbreaker that McCartney used to bash out like they were ten-a-penny, its stamping piano riff reminiscent of Peppers-era Beatles channeling Sigur Ros and Ben Folds Five.

As the singer of MTV Award winning Charlie Straight, front man Albert Cerny’s new band Lake Malawi somehow found themselves, still in their infancy, supporting Thirty Seconds To Mars at their Prague show in June – it may well have something to do with this monstrously good single.
