Upstream: 15/08/14

We’re getting sent so much new music at the moment that we’re going to start collating some of our favourites that would otherwise be slipping through the net into a new weekly feature called Upstream.

This week’s inaugural edition of Upstream features new tracks from Seafret, Röyksopp and Robyn, Hot Chip, Seahaven, Manchester Orchestra and Ruu Campbell.

Read on Macduff…

Seafret – Explosion

The duo from North Yorkshire released their first track ‘Give Me Something’ a few weeks back to a rapturous response, amassing over 100K streams in two weeks and peaking at #1 on the Hype machine non-remix chart. They release their debut EP ‘Give Me Something’ on Sweet Jane Recordings on September 21st.

Röyksopp and Robyn – Monument

As Röyksopp & Robyn come to the end of their DIA tour they bid farewell with the release of their final video – for the epic 10-minute long track ‘Monument’, the inspiring mini-album opener. ‘Monument’ is taken from the critically-acclaimed ‘Do It Again’ mini-album out now on Dog Triumph via Wall of Sound and Cooking Vinyl.

Hot Chip – Go Bang

‘Go Bang’ is Hot Chip’s contribution to Master Mix: Red Hot + Arthur Russell, a track Russell originally recorded under his Dinosaur L moniker. Turning in a suitably zinging extended mix, HC have more than risen to the challenge – check out the particularly sublime break around the 7 minute mark…

Seahaven – Andreas

A beautiful acoustic version from Canadian bunch Seahaven here who return to the UK with Balance and Composure in October, following on from the success of the release of the band’s sophomore full-length, ‘Reverie Lagoon: Music For Escapism Only’.

Manchester Orchestra – Girl Harbor

Manchester Orchestra will release this hefty new single on the 29th September through Loma Vista Recordings and licensed by Caroline Records. The track is the third single to be taken from the band’s fourth album COPE, which was released to critical acclaim in March this year. Following huge demand for the band’s UK tour in April the band will return to the UK with Brooklyn native Kevin Devine and the Goddamn Band this autumn.

Ruu Campbell – Crossroads – Soren Remix (The Dusk Mix)

From a major label deal with Dreamworks at 15, to 2 years work with Leftfield, a spell with trance outfit Younger Brother, collaborations with British jazz and electronic collective the Cinematic Orchestra, and now his debut solo album, Ruu Campbell has crossed the genre-boundary repeatedly in his fledgling career. This Soren Remix of his latest beauty Crossroads is no different.
