We’ve just about had our fill of the multitude of psych sub-genres doing the rounds at the moment, but Psyence are doing something a little different; something a little kooky, something with a bit of balls and a good deal less pretension than usual. We like, a lot.
Flashes of 80’s BBC soundtrack guitar genius dart alongside racing funk basslines whilst melodies and time signatures usually reserved for the chaotic melange of The Mars Volta and a thought provoking electro-tinged outro hint at more than your average acid casualties’ output.
On latest single Chemicals For Breakfast, a healthy portion of Americana garage rock bangs heads with the 90’s Brit Rock of Ocean Colour Scene and the unmistakable druggy swagger of the Happy Mondays, while a raging wall of modern psychedelia threatens to unhinge the whole song entirely.
The follow up to their debut single ‘Zebra’, ‘Chemicals For Breakfast’ will be released on April 28th, preceding a string of new releases from Psyence throughout 2014.
