Stream Track From Morning Smoke’s Forthcoming Mini Album

Morning Smoke’s debut mini album is a significant calling card for a hotly tipped young band and charts what the band have achieved to date. Art Rocker tipped them as a band to watch in 2014, whilst Q Magazine praised their sound as “Existential moping rarely sounds this filling” and their track ‘DYWD’ from the album was recently voted track of the week on the review show by Radio 1 listeners. Edith Bowman subsequently described them as ‘Ian Curtis backed by the Foals playing the 4AD back catalogue’.

Morning Smoke are young 18-19 year olds, but play with a maturity and expertise beyond their years. The four piece reside in Brighton though Max Wright and Milo McNulty, originally from Bath have been writing together for 3 years. Their sound reminiscent of somewhere between My Bloody Valentine meets Joy Division with their own soul and essence intertwined. They describe their sound as ‘noise pop’, hooky songs bursting through a modern wall of sound. Title track ‘In Euphoria’ for example has a sweet piano introduction with mournful vocals reaching out and is met by sheer tidal wave burst of guitar, whilst ‘Tangerine’ and ‘Blue Ribbons’ hit from the outset with effervescent noise to bath in, relenting perfectly on cue to let vocal hooks and lead riffs come to the fore.

Although still very much a fledgling band, Morning Smoke are clearly in possession of already finely honed skills and craftsmanship. The band show an unexpected maturity with the tracks on this mini album where they add a sharp, sweet breaks, before taking you fully into the truly transcendent.

The Mini album is to be released at The Great Escape Festival on 8th May.
