Brooklyn based artist Dawn Landes has unveiled her captivating new track ‘Try to Make a Fire Burn Again’, taken from her brand new album Bluebird, released via Western Vinyl on March 3rd.
Bluebird is arguably one of Dawn’s most emotionally absorbing albums and the country-tinged ‘Try to Make a Fire Burn Again’ is a prime example of her often heart-wrenching lyrical approach. Dawn says: “I saw two women perform a flame twirling routine at a party one night and it was so beautiful I recorded it on my phone. I took it home and started writing Try to Make a Fire Burn Again to accompany their performance. In the end, it was a much more personal narrative but I like to remember the beauty of those women and their flames every time I sing it.”
The album is full of similarly enchanting songs, born from a particularly turbulent time in Dawn’s life, though moments of sadness in Bluebird are punctuated with reflection and hope. Dawn produced the album herself, along with Thomas Bartlett known for his work with Yoko Ono, The National and Glen Hansard. Bluebird also features the talents of Rob Moose (Anthony and the Johnson, Arcade Fire), Tony Scherr (Ani DiFranco,Rufus Wainwright) and Norah Jones, who provides piano and backing vocals on the album’s title track.
Landes has previously collaborated in the studio with contemporaries like Justin Townes Earle, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe and ex-husband, Josh Ritter, toured with such artists as Feist, Andrew Bird, Beth Orton, Hem, Midlake and Ray Lamontagne, while also appearing with The American Songbook Series, Boston Pops and with the NYC Ballet at Lincoln Center, singing as part of composer Nico Muhly’s score.
