After getting the blogopshere suitably hot under the collar, Painted Palms released their debut full length for Polyvinyl, “Forever”, earlier this month.
Although the band, comprised of two cousins, grew up together in Lafayette, Louisiana, Reese Donohue eventually moved to San Francisco, while Chris Prudhomme stayed near New Orleans, meaning they had to rely on the internet to keep their family music collaboration alive.
Check out their latest ‘Here It Comes’ and then sink your teeth into this special mixtape from the band’s Chris Prudhomme which celebrates his Top 5 musical family collaborations.
1. Beach boys – God Only Knows
“A simple pop song with complex chord structure is hard to pull off, but it’s executed so well that you don’t blink an eye. Really psychedelic in it’s seamlessness. And Carl sings it like a champ.”
2. Santo and Johnny – Sleep Walk
“I like that lyrics were written for the original version and then scrapped. The wooziness in this track inspires us. The state of mind is special, and it defies words.”
3. The Kinks – Destroyer
“It’s hard to choose one Kinks song, but they deserve a spot on the list. Destroyer is one that I’ve been listening to lately.”
4. Radiohead – Let Down
“This song has always been kind of breathtaking to me. Everything grows together and intertwines, and soon you’re lost in something beautiful.”
5. Jackson 5 – I Want You Back
“Just watch this.”
