You might not know much about Mint Royale, and who could blame you. An electronic duo act from Manchester, they were originally founded by Neil Claxton and Chris Baker in 1997; the latter left the band in 2004, but Claxton continues to produce music using the Mint Royale name.
They’ve dabbled with the limelight a few times with a couple of Top 20 hits you may remember if you’re the right age, but this stonking new track featuring the silken tones of Hollywood chisel-chin Willem Defoe definitely caught our attention.
It’s a stonking, swelling beast that climaxes in an immensely satisfying meltdown of over-driven synths as Defoe’s monologue adds a bit of gravitas and glamour to proceedings. Is this the Baz Luhrman’s Sunscreen of 2014?
We think so. Massive.
