“Crawling”, from Hull based, Life, is an intoxicating little Christmas firecracker celebrating indie dancefloor with pogo garage/ punk apathy. Out as a free download on Birthday Records as a perfectly unsteady bridge between their last single and their next.
With instant lyrics, brazen melody and infectious groove this is the track you want to hear at any club on the eve of Christmas or New Year’s.
“I’m crawling up the walls but I feel alright, I lost my sense of purpose but now I’m fine”, singer Mez snarls in amongst the satisfyingly lo-fi driving guitar sounds and bass fuzz.
Grubbily philosophical, the track follows from debut single smasher ‘I Wanna Forget’ which received an abundance of play on 6 Music, XFM and Amazing Radio from the likes of new music stalwarts Steve Lamacq and Jo n Kennedy as well as being selected earlier this year as one of The Fly’s ‘Names To Watch’ and ASOS’s Magazine front cover shoot track.
Hook heavy “Crawling” looks set to continue this early buzz and by the time Hull gets to enjoy its turn as City Of Culture in 2017 it’s more than likely that Life will have already put the old fishing port firmly on the worldwide map.
