It’s been a really good couple of weeks for Vigo Thieves. Not only have the band released the ‘Heart And Soul Pt II’ E.P. on 11 March but they also became the first unsigned band to sell out consecutive headline shows at Glasgow’s infamous King Tut’s (in the venue’s twenty-three year history).
They were also nominated for Best Live Act (sponsored by Bar Bloc) at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards 2013,playing a very well received set at the awards ceremony. And Vigo Thieves received a personal invitation by DF Concerts CEO Geoff Ellis to perform at the T in the Park 20th birthday party (invite only), who said they were one of the most exciting new Scottish bands out there.
Quite the couple of weeks in fact. Because it doesn’t stop there, the band have just released a video for ‘Ghosts’, opting out of the traditional “oh look it’s a band” video in favour of another memorable cameo. Not with Jody Latham from Shameless (as with the video-only-released-last-August single ‘Forever’) this time but instead a stunning “man walks into a pub…” performance from John Leslie.
Lead singer Stevie Jukes : “We came up with the idea for the video almost as soon as I finished writing the song along with Stuart from Shootback Productions who shot our last video for ‘Forever’. We couldn’t get anyone to play the part though, so we were very close to shelving it and going with Plan B which was a basic band performance video, not something we wanted to do as our songs have a cinematic quality that we like to highlight through film.”
“I caught John Leslie on daytime television talking about everything he had been through and it was exactly what we were looking for, so Stuart got in touch with his agent. The following Sunday we shot the film downstairs in the State Bar. It happened that quickly. We are delighted with the results, John turns in a brilliant performance and Stuart has captured it fantastically well.”
John Leslie : “To be honest I have always wanted to be in my own music video so when Vigo Thieves asked me to star in their new video it was a no brainer. A great song from a band destined to be big and Scottish to boot. I had seen their previous video ‘Forever’ and thought it was excellent so I knew the benchmark was high. I hope I didn’t let the boys down and their fans will like what we were trying to achieve. I had a great day in Glasgow filming the video and I hope it shows”.
Self-produced at Torface Studios in Glasgow, the ‘Heart And Soul Pt. II’ E.P. features a re-recording of ‘Forever’ (now ‘Blinding Light/Forever’) and brand new tracks ‘Ghosts’ and ‘Believe’ and shows quite why Vigo Thieves are amassing such a loyal fanbase and winning such attention in Scotland.
