Record breaking musical comedy Pitch Perfect, described as a cross between “GLEE” and “Bridesmaids”, which has become a massive screen sensation both in the US and UK over Christmas, has spawned what is shaping up to be the most successful soundtrack album since Saturday Night Fever.
The film, starring Rebel Wilson, centres around the all-girl Barden Bellas going tonsil to tonsil with the all guy warbling jock ensemble The Treblemakers.
The album has soared to no. 1 on the US iTunes chart, there are actually 2 versions in the top 10 with combined sales of over 500,000 copies and currently tops the UK compilation charts. With kids across the globe starting up their own accapella groups this phenomenon looks set to grow and grow. Pitch Perfect the movie hit no.2 on the UK box office, only kept off the top spot by The Hobbit, and as things stand, amazingly ranks as the second highest grossing musical comedy film of all time behind School Of Rock.
With over 900k people have already seen the film in the UK over the past two weeks since its release, Pitch Perfect has taken over £5 million in the UK box office.
