In January 2012 Pepe Deluxé – aka Finland’s James Spectrum and Sweden’s Paul Malmström – released ‘Queen of the Wave’, an album aptly described by Pop Matters as “the most impressive album ever painstakingly assembled across space and time” -10/10.

It was an exhilarating, adventurous, and boldly experimental album ( “…an odyssey bursting with energy, colour and invention” – MusicOMH 4/5) in which Pepe Deluxé mixed up beats, psychedelia, funk and pop, like a pair of mad scientists, into a high-octane sonic explosion of a record. Inspired by the themes of Atlantis, Venus, sci-fi futurism and reincarnation – all written of in the mystical 19th Century novel ‘A Dweller On Two Planets’ – ‘Queen of the Wave’ could be described as the sound of a deliciously bizarre pop-opera, one which sonically “…makes Queen or Kanye’s madly eclectic sonic excesses look like a campfire strum-along” – Mixmag.

‘Queen of the Wave’ featured: the Great Stalacpipe Organ (the world’s biggest instrument, built into one of the Caverns of Luray, Virginia); an eclectic and talented pool of 63 collaborators including Samuli Kosminen of Múm, master metal drummer Kai Hahto, ArcAttack and their lethal Tesla coil synthesizer, the Czech Film Orchestra and the female voice actress of Shrek and Moomins; Edwardian and Victorian equipment and instruments, including a modified Edison ghost hunting machine (all painstakingly restored and played to sound like snippets from ultra rare records); and let us not forget the accompanying album companions with their comic-esque, b-movie scrapbook aesthetic and content including genuine linear notes from the Princess of Sweden to Professor of Astronomy (and part-time bad ass biker) Esko Valtaoja.

So it might be hard to see what could possibly better the original ‘Queen of the Wave’ brimming as it is with all the above and heralded as “the most ambitious, unique and fantastical pop opera this side of the sun.” – Artrocker (Album of the Month). Simple. Never underestimate the inventive and creative powerhouse that is Pepe Deluxé for they have, with their ‘Queen of the Wave’ Deluxé Edition, surpassed even themselves.

The ‘Queen of the Wave’ Deluxé Edition includes the Original Album in full, plus 6 Brand New Tracks and interludes, legendary Yol Gorro’s easy-listening version of the album, a DVD brimming with Videos and Artwork and some very useful Extras.
