Announcing this pioneering collaboration between two of the leading lights of the UK’s rock and metal scene, Paul Gregory, Bloodstock Festival Director, said “What an exciting development for Bloodstock and its fans. The best metal festival in the country is now the best rock & metal radio station in the country as well! At Bloodstock HQ we are really excited about the possibilities this joint venture offers and, I am sure, it will develop even further”.
TotalRock Programme Controller, Tony Wilson added “The provision of a year-round festival radio station is a ground-breaking move, and one that sees both TotalRock and Bloodstock continue their track records of innovation and support for rock and metal music. Our Award-winning roster of TotalRock DJs will be joined by many of the voices already well known to the BOA community to serve up an unrivalled feast of metal and rock. We shall also continue to provide our up-to-the-minute news service and daily newsletter under the Bloodstock banner.”
Building a radio station around the award winning and fast-rising Bloodstock festival will strengthen the links between the festival and its existing fan community as well as spreading the gospel of metal to countless others in the UK and across the globe. Bloodstock Radio will also be heavily involved in promoting Metal 2 the Masses, the Festival’s annual series of club shows offering unsigned bands to the chance to compete for a place on the bill at Bloodstock Open Air and other European festivals.
BLOODSTOCK festival was established in 2001 as an indoor event and Bloodstock Open Air replaced this in 2005. The festival celebrated its most successful event to-date this year, with headline appearances from rock legend Alice Cooper, Machine Head and Behemoth. The 2013 festival, which runs from August 8th-11th promises great things with performances already locked in from Anthrax, King Diamond, Accept, Firewind, and Fozzy. Further additions to the bill, including two more headliners are to be announced in due course.
TotalRock was launched in 2000 by Radio 1 ‘Friday Rock Show’ creator Tony Wilson, the legendary ‘Voice Of Metal’ Tommy Vance, and the ultimate metal guru, journalist and author, Malcolm Dome. A dozen years later, TotalRock continues to defy the dead hand of corporatisation by exposing the world to brand new bands and keeping the flag flying for the very best of rock and metal’s ear-bleeding heritage.
TotalRock, the UK’s leading online rock radio station is to become Bloodstock Radio on 1st December 2012.
