Rock On The Radio

As part of the BBC Radio One Rocks event this week we’ve FINALLY been treated to a bit of alternative music before the watershed on, heaven forbid, mainstream radio. For a radio network that’s funded by license payers, the rock fraternity has been woefully under-represented for a good few years now. Whilst the specialist shows from Daniel P Carter and Mike Davies go a long way to propagate some of the best established and new bands emerging from the UK scene, it’s actually incredibly gratifying to see names like Bullet For My Valentine, Bring Me The Horizon, While She Sleeps, We Are The Ocean, You Me At Six, Lower Than Atlantis, The Gaslight Anthem, Deap Vally, Biffy Clyro and Twin Atlantic all receiving the recognition they quite rightfully deserve as some of the pioneering rock acts of the new breed forging out across the globe.

If you like your music loud, here’s how you can get involved with Radio One Rocks and show the station heads and programmers that there is an active rock community out there who demands to be represented more accurately:

“Radio 1 is set to rock this October, celebrating all things rock music with a week of incredible, exclusive live performances from some of the biggest rock bands of the moment.

From Monday 22nd until Thursday 25th October bands including We Are The Ocean, While She Sleeps, Bring Me The Horizon, Bullet For My Valentine, Lower Than Atlantis, You Me At Six, Deap Vally, The Gaslight Anthem, Twin Atlantic and Biffy Clyro will perform at BBC Maida Vale studios in front of a live audience during special rock themed evening shows co-hosted by Zane Lowe and Radio 1’s Rock champion Daniel P Carter.”
