Following on from last year’s award-winning Silent Alarm EP, multi-instrumentalist Boxes returns with his stunning new single ‘Red Skies’ taken from upcoming debut album Stickers, which is out 7th May.
Continuing the playful electronic bleeps and hushed vocals of his earlier releases, ‘Red Skies’ is Boxes’ most powerful track to date and marks a newfound maturity within its lush string arrangements and subtle guitars.
Entwining healthy amounts of pop with dance music, the latest release from Boxes is undeniably a song for evocative movie montages, with its soaring, anthemic choruses and sweet lyrics.
South-London based Boxes, better known to his mum as Carey Willetts (also Athlete’s bassist), has totally immersed himself into his current guise with his guitars, loop pedals and iPad.
Testament to his one-man-band ethos in which he defies convention and proves that a talented musician needs no more than himself and his instruments to create a record encapsulating a huge sound, while staying true to the charm possessed by what is essentially a lone singer-songwriter.
