(FRI 30th)
London power pop/rock four-piece, THE TRICKS, are Jonny Depp's favourite new band. Expect punchy Razorlight-style hooks, memorable Kooks-esque melodies and gorgeous sunny harmonies
Geordie song-smith and multi-instrumentalist, ALEX BUTLER, who has been impressing with catchy, hook-laden, upbeat pop tunes with authentic slice-of-life lyrics following the same great British tradition as bands like The Kinks and Arctic Monkeys. Brighton indie rockers, MUNICH – epic widescreen guitar-pop with bold and thoughtful arrangements, calling to mind bands like Radiohead and Editors – destined for the big stage and 'Exactly what British music needs' say XFM. DIRTY GOODS – electro/dance/rock fusion group from Newport, Wales who supported Hard-Fi on their last UK tour. Sound like Daft Punk crossed with The Rapture. Debut album out in April.
(SAT 31st)
FRENCH CROPS – punk/ska indie band from London with hard-hitting tunes and melodic move-your-feet riffs. Like a mix of The Specials and The Sex Pistols.
SOME VELVET MORNING – these Londoners are masters of streamlined, shimmering, soaring guitar rock. Like a hybrid of U2 and The White Stripes. 'Stadium rock written all over it' MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS
Keyboard-driven pop purveyors, THE GHOSTS, combine angular guitar lines and multi-layered vocals with pulsating synthesisers to create an eighties-tinged sound that puts one in mind of bands like Hot Chip, MGMT and new-ravers The Klaxons. Currently promoting their debut album, 'Tropical Splash' (out this week), COPACABANA CLUB are three blokes and two girls from Brazil who blend indie rock with a Brazilian twist, quickly turning gigs into bouncing dance-floors.
