Having scrubbed the decks of Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, Mike Davies and Xfm’s John Kennedy with their debut single ‘Kissing Gates’ – the good ship Crowns gets ready to set sail again with their new EP.
The self-titled six track EP will be released on their own imprint – Ship Wreckords – distributed by PIAS and available on CD and download. Their release date of March 5th 2012 ties in with St Piran’s Day, Cornwall’s celebration of their patron saint.
‘Full Swing’, the EP’s lead track, showcases the best of the Cornish boys’ shanty-esque folk-punk racket, crashing mercilessly from verse to chorus and leaving little room to catch your breath. Elsewhere the anthemic, shout-a-long ‘She Swears Like a Sailor’ is one for the ladies. That is if the ladies are foul-mouthed and can ‘drink you under the table’. True to form, Crowns rabble-rousing originals sit side-by-side with traditional Cornish tune ‘Bodmin Town’ which has been dragged up from the old cobbled streets right into the 21st Century.
Continuing to strengthen their reputation as a formidable live act, Crowns ended 2011 supporting The King Blues on their November UK tour. They head out on a 12 date UK tour supporting hotly-tipped punks Sharks this spring.
