Nic Cage has another bad hair day in this medieval yarn about a couple of knights on the lam, pulled in for a job escorting an alleged witch to a far off monastery.
Ron Perlman joins his good buddy along with an assorted ragtag team of thieves and holy men as they cart the young woman off across treacherous landscapes and turn against one another along the way to their inconveniently hard to get to destination.
As an effects fuelled bit of escapism this is fine for forgettable entertainment. But it won’t rank high on Cage’s or Perlman’s body of work. Director Dominic Sena previously directed Cage in Gone In 60 Seconds. Like that film, there’s an interesting concept on board and a cast of known actors to help proceedings through, but he lacks control of his own editing and pace to help make this the nail-biter it could be.
