Dave Grohl Doesn't Feel Like “An Incredible Songwriter”

In an interview with Absolute Radio 90s, Dave Grohl has rather predictably modestly played down his rock-God-like status. He told presenter Ben Jones:

“I don't feel like I'm an incredible songwriter that makes these incredible rock records.  I'm humbled by the whole thing and I just sort of cross my fingers and hope that it sounds okay, or that people will dig it, or my band will dig it.”

Dave added that the band's drummer, Taylor Hawkins, is very honest with him and tells him if one of his ideas isn't working. He said:

“There are some times where I'll write a song and Taylor will say 'That's not your best work'.”

Taylor – who is also in the band alongside Chris Shiflett, Nate Mendel and Pat Smear – admitted he is occasionally daunted by Dave's abilities however, as he was the drummer for seminal rock group Nirvana in the early 90s. He added:

“For me to say that there aren't times in this band, where I don't wish I was the only drummer in the room. Believe me, there's been times where I've felt, 'I don't want to share this responsibility with somebody, I want to be the only one who's coming up with my own parts', but I think that goes for anybody in the band really, because Dave's an amazing drummer, Dave's an amazing guitar player, Dave's an amazing bass player, so he kind of knows somewhat what he wants, and at the same time he also knows when to give everybody space.”
