Imagine that Dave Grohl and Alex Turner went all brokeback mountain … and that the resulting bastard offspring was found in the hills to be raised by Slash and Tom Morello…
“This Is No Good For You” is Scrim’s fourth release – a 7-track EP – showcasing the Sheffield foursome’s ever unique alt-rock sound. A massive musical leap forward since previous well received releases such as their debut album, – “Definitely the Red Wire” which was released last year.
“For fans of Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters … a sharp debut album that kicks some serious ass! Keep your eyes peeled for this lot” – Rocksound Magazine (7/10)
Expect more of the same explosive noise, hard-hitting drumbeats, brit-crunch rhythm and more equally cynical/humorous views on life – for example 'So Calculated', a cautionary tale about the ever present girl in “that bar”, switching between light swaggering verses and full-on rock choruses. But now we also hear songs like 'Five Years Wasted' – a relentlessly driving track, yet with striking personal insights into singer Alek’s thoughts on the band’s career. Having developed this purposely ‘production-light’ sound, solely with long term Nottingham based mixer/producer –Mr Simon Patterson, Scrim continue on with their ethos of producing simply loud, energetic rock, looking to spread some temporary deafness to fans at the ever present upcoming gigs.
“The Grit of Nickleback and the contemporary drive of Lost Prophets. Their E.P. proves there are still young bands interested in making their point through actual songs rather than fashion and style – watch with interest” – Kerrang! magazine on the first EP – “Talking in Code”

“It’s always been about the music for us. I could not give a flying fuck what we’re supposed to be wearing or meant to be sounding like according to x person/s, we want to put our songs at the forefront, not some ‘band image’ so we’ve made a conscious decision to pursue originality rather than copying/following trends. I think we’re really onto something with this EP, it sounds great yet it’s beautifully flawed and completely human, it’s loud, it’s energetic, it has soul, everything that I would want from Scrim. With this release, we’re on a bit of a mission to find some more like-minded music lovers out there who enjoy hearing our songs” – Alek McGovern (Singer/guitarist)
“If you only listen to one new album this year, choose Definitely the Red Wire, a wonderful blend of everything that's missing from today's rock culture” – Sheffield Music Scene
Since the group’s conception 5 years ago, the currently unsigned band have been busy gigging all over the country, supporting acts including Stiff Little Fingers, Ladyfuzz, Go! Audio, Fear of Music, The Gentlemen and New York Dolls at venues such as the Plug, Leadmill and O2 in their hometown, Academy and Dry Bar (Manchester), Cockpit (Leeds), The Croft (Bristol) and The Water Rats (London).
Expect to see some upcoming shows in light of the digital EP release on Monday, June 13th 2011
