Vocal cord polyp forces Caro Emerald to cancel tour including HMV Next Big Thing appearance. UK single release postponed until May 9th 2011
A routine check up at the Ear, Nose & Throat specialist has revealed that Dutch singing sensation Caro Emerald has a polyp on one of her vocal cords.
Caro will undergo surgery next week with a full recovery estimated to take 3-4 months. As a result all touring and promotion has been cancelled until May.
Caro’s management Grand Mono explained: “Although Caro has not had any acute vocal problems or hoarseness we have been advised that surgery is inevitable and it is unwise for her to continue singing until the polyp is removed.”
Dr J.J. van Twisk of the Ikazia Hospital in Rotterdam added: “There is a large polyp on the right vocal cord. The polyp is too large to expect that it will disappear with conservative treatment (no surgery and voice rest and speech therapy) so the only option is surgery.”
In Britain, Caro and Sarah Blasko were due to co-headline at The Jazz Café on February 13th as part of HMV’s Next Big Thing gig series. The night will continue with Sarah Blasko and a DJ set by Portishead’s Andy Smith.
The UK release of Caro’s single ‘A Night Like This’, originally scheduled for February 14th, will now be released on May 9th 2011.
‘Deleted Scenes From The Cutting Room Floor’ was released in Holland in January 2010 and has now been number 1 in the Dutch album charts for a record breaking 30 weeks. Caro has received the EBBA Award, the Popprijs Award, the Edison Award and a nomination for an MTV EMA. The album is platinum in Poland and was Radio 2’s Album Of The Week upon its release. Her first two UK singles ‘Back It Up’ and ‘Riviera Life’ were A-listed by Radio 2 – ‘Riviera Life’ staying on the playlist for over two months including during the Christmas period – and the entire album was playlisted by Radio 2 in January 2011.
