Cornershop will re-release their much-loved double ‘A’ single, ‘Topknot/Natch’, paving the way for the release of their fifth studio album this March, which features the incredible double sugar-coated vocals on the track come courtesy of Bubbley Kaur; this LP is already The Guardian and Spin Magazine’s pick of 2011 albums to watch out for.
Licensed and originally released in UK and Europe in July 2004 by Rough Trade Records, ‘Topknot’ has already become a favourite at Indian weddings and clubs of the night. A John Peel favourite and even, strangely enough, pumped out on urban radio stations. M.I.A. was so taken by it she provided an original rap on a Caveman Mix of the track. But this double ‘A’ continues to receive wide critical acclaim.
Described as “one of the most vital inventive force at work in British pop” (Telegraph), Cornershop follow the success of their last album, ‘Judy Sucks a Lemon For Breakfast’, with the release of their new album in 2011. It will feature more vocals from Bubbley Kaur, who according to Mojo is “the only lady with a Punjab Vocal Degree”.
