As this obdurate winter continues to pile on still more snow, raise heating bills and now riddle us all with post festive-indulgent guilt, it almost feels like there is no end in sight to the deep freeze. Thank the maker, then, that a much needed dose of redemptive Garden Festival goodness is not as far away as first thought; the first wave of the Garden Get Together Tour has just been announced, and it’s looking rather special including appearances from Tensnake, Greg Wilson, Crazy P, Bonobo, Tevo Howard and Motor City Drum Ensemble.
Thankfully the cold has not taken root over in Petrcane, Croatia, where momentum continues to build for the Garden Festival itself. The sun-kissed site might be quiet, but behind closed doors the team have been working away towards their Back To Our Roots long weekender taking place from Weds 6th – Wed 13th July. Whilst plaudits and kudos for 2010’s Double Whammy dropped faster than a Yorkshire blizzard, the guys decided for next year to bring the famed festival full circle back to its origin ethos; seven days and nights of beatific beats, sizzling hot weather, water-side lazing, sumptuous grazing and late night partying be it on the main stage, Barbarellas Discotheque, The infamous sea-faring Argonaughty or dancing in the sea at the Tiki Bar. The pine-shaded peninsular site jutting into the enticing Adriatic waters remains one of Europe’s best kept secrets.
Back in the UK, the Futureboogie boys from Bristol have been piecing together the tour, building on the success of 2010’s spring sessions. Already six dates are confirmed, covering Brighton, London, Manchester, Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham. There are more to come, taking in other key cities and venues.
Nick Colgan, one of the founders of the Garden Festival says that, “Futureboogie’s Dave and Steve have put together some great dates already with promoters we love and have great relationships with. The tour is spreading further for 2011, including European dates and more in the UK. We want to spread some Garden magic and get people in the mood for the main event in the summer.”
The tour starts on Fri 4th Feb with Coma Cat’s architect and disco-king Tensnake at Audio. The day after on Sat 5th March, there are two sessions to savour; in London at Plan B, Electric Minds, Future Disco and Community combine to offer three distinct foundation-forming strands of music from the Garden with deep disco, cosmic dub and house on offer. Up in Manchester, Garden perennial fave Greg Wilson drops in to the Deaf Institute.
On home turn, Futureboogie serve up some brilliance from Bonobo and German duo Motor City Drum Ensemble at Blue Mountain on Fri 4th March. In Cardiff on Sat 12th March, team Futureboogie and Paddy Freeform take over Gwdihw. And finally in Birmingham, a Crazy P DJ set lights up the Midlands on Friday 18th. More dates are to be confirmed shortly.
