Sea of Bees is Julie Baenziger, an utterly spell-binding new talent. Ahead of the release of her debut album ‘Song For The Ravens’, released on Heavenly Recordings on February 7, she embarks on a tour with the equally elfin and ethereal Smoke Fairies, beginning on January 16 and taking in dates across the UK, culminating in a performance at the Scala on February 3.
A multi-instrumentalist who possesses a truly unique, lulling warmness to her voice and an honesty in her song-writing which is both heartbreaking and inspirational, Sea Of Bees is an artist brimming with excitement and promise. What’s more she is mesmerising live, as showcased in September during a string of dates in London. Her music takes on an otherworldly, hypnotic element and that voice, a startling instrument in itself, is truly brought to the fore. This string of dates will prove to be absolutely unmissable.
Having garnered much praise from American critics such as Spin and Indie Shuffle and with Rough Trade Shops recently describing her as ‘without a doubt one of the best female voices of the year”, all this paves the way for the release of her debut album, ‘Song For The Ravens’, which will undoubtedly introduce people to her greatness. ‘Freak-folk’, as Julie coins her music, is certain to be the soundtrack of 2011.
Tickets for the tour are available from all the usual outlets and are on sale now.
