As part of The Warehouse Project’s season climax across a festive string of dates, the inspired 5th anniversary celebrations feature a tantalising trance session featuring some of the biggest names around on the global scene from new project Freq. The ethos is to unite the biggest techno and trance names together for a series of be-spoke events with very high level production and visuals along with the best up and coming spinners and worldwide stars.
So those in need of a post-turkey and Xmas pudding stuffing need look no further for their burn-off than this epic Freq event, headlined by group who transcend the DJ/band definition to create something truly unique: Above and Beyond.
Consistently charting in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs – this year they are placed at no.5 – is entirely reflective of Above and Beyond’s global reach. Their own label, Anjunabeats, remains one of the most revered for its consistently high level productions and nurturing new talent into the scene. From remixing Madonna (2001), to winning Essential Mix of the Year (2004) or playing to one million people on the beach in Rio de Janeiro (New Year’s Eve 2007), Above & Beyond’s career has been a constant upward curve since the trio formed in 2000. Their 2nd and hugely anticipated artist album, Group Therapy, is expected to drop in the next few months. From small, East European club shows to major festival like America’s Coachella, Above & Beyond have a unique ability to captivate audiences and in the intimate confines of the WHP’s main room this is a session to savour, one of the highlights of the 5th anniversary season. This truly global star trio offer euphoric sets of the highest order and have to be seen to be believed – Freq at the WHP is the place to witness these magnificent music masters at work!
Next up is a UK star Gareth Emery, whose rise through the ranks has been meteoric. Ever since his remix of Nervous Breakdown and seminal track Mistral, heralded Gareth as a how new talent, he has evolved into one of the most exciting DJs, producers and remixers on the scene, spanning the worlds of trance, progressive, electro and techno to great acclaim. He has his own hugely successful Garuda label and club night and also spent more time at the top of Beatport’s trance chart than any other DJ through 2009. Having eschewed the lure of corporate major labels, he’s living proof that you can amass a truly global following with little more than the power of the internet and some outstanding music, including over 100 podcasts. With millions of viewers on YouTube and legions of fans on Facebook, Twitter and Myspace, he’s a modern artist in every sense of the word; one with his finger truly on the pulse of the globalised, digitised planet we now inhabit. Gareth’s recent debut album, Northern Lights, further illustrates his huge ability and his debut WHP set is one to really savour; it’s time to witness DJ Mag’s no.7 best DJ in the world at Freq!
Support comes from Anjunabeats’ prodigy Matt Zo who, at just 20 years of age, is one of the most exciting new artists around with an already bulging remix and production history and support from all the big names. The first lady of trance, Sophie Sugar, also stars, bringing her uplifting and driving style to the WHP.
The packed lineup also features sets from Manchester’s own Beatmode, the north-west’s John Bennett, Steptoe & Son and Musty, with many more to be announced.
