Becoming Real returns on 15th November with 'Spectre' EP, released on new Moshi Moshi sub-label Not Even!
Following on from a 12” released in June through RAMP Recordings, Toby Ridler, AKA Becoming Real is back to haunt your speakers once again with another self-termed Ghost record, this time featuring guest vocals from enigmatic grime artist Trim.
Toby says of collaborating with Trim: “The whole hook up came about through me making beats and sending them around. My friend got in touch with Trim and it seemed like a good match, as at the time I was making really cosmic/lucid beats and Trim’s vocals seem to reveal a depth of imagery like no other MC I can think of. With “Like Me”, I was trying to conjure up a haunted image of a city at night, something that wasn't haunting in itself, but more that it was being haunted.”
For “Like Me”, Becoming Real enlisted the remix duties of Chicago’s DJ Rashad, infamous for his part in the creation of Chicago Juke music. DJ Rashad has masterfully turned “Like Me” into a double speed hyper-rhythmic monster.
Becoming Real will be the first release from Not Even, a new singles label born into the Moshi Moshi family mid-2010. Not Even arose from slapdash nights at The Stags Head in London which hosted bands and DJ's such as, Spectrals, Yuck, Fol Chen, A Grave With No Name, Becoming Real and Dam Mantle. Essentially, Not Even aims to create a unique place for new music to thrive and be loved for what it is.
