Hard Rock International and Absolute Radio have today announced that legendary band Squeeze will be the next artists to grace the Hard Rock London stage as part of the regular ‘Hard Rock Presents Absolute Radio Sessions’ series of shows on 20 October 2010.
Featuring original founding members Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, Squeeze vets John Bentley and Steve Nieve on bass and keys respectively, and drummer Simon Hanson, Squeeze will take to the infamous live music venue to show fans exactly why they’re still going strong, more than 35 years on from their debut single.
Since reforming in 2007, Squeeze have been a staple of successful festival seasons, playing to rapturous receptions at V Festival, Oxegen, T in the Park, Isle of Wight and Latitude. Famous followers including Lily Allen, Mark Ronson, Kasabian, The Feeling, Razorlight and Nick Hornby have all adopted distinct elements of the band’s musical and lyrical genius into their own, reflecting the ongoing appeal of the Squeeze sound.
Following this special show for Absolute Radio, Squeeze will embark on their largest UK tour in over a decade, playing 22 dates throughout November and December that will show a band as vital and energised as they have ever been. That chemistry is evident on the band’s new album ‘Spot The Difference’, a collection of 14 of their best-loved tracks that have been painstakingly re-recorded using techniques and equipment from their original incarnations.
The gig will be hosted by Absolute Radio Hometime DJ Geoff Lloyd and tickets can only be won by tuning into Absolute Radio or logging onto link.
Listeners to the national radio station will be able to hear the session in full on Thursday 21st October in the Absolute Radio Hometime Show from 5pm – 8pm, plus the gig will be available to watch online together with an exclusive interview, on the Absolute Radio website link.
Squeeze’s contribution to music was marked in 2010 with the Greenwich site of their first ever gig being awarded a prestigious PRS For Music heritage plaque and also with the PPL / Radio Academy Lifetime Achievement Award, following in the footsteps of Sir Paul McCartney, Gary Barlow and Trevor Horn. These are the latest in a string of accolades afforded to the band, with notable achievements including an Ivor Novello for ‘Outstanding Contribution to British Music’ and the Nordoff Robbins ‘Icons’ Award.
Squeeze follow in the footsteps of Editors, Scouting For Girls and Amy Macdonald, all of whom have headlined previous ‘Hard Rock Presents Absolute Radio Sessions’ shows, which take place at the world famous Hard Rock Cafe in London’s Mayfair.
‘Hard Rock Presents Absolute Radio Sessions’ continue Hard Rock’s commitment to hosting live music events – within the last few years the likes of Aerosmith, Stevie Wonder, The Charlatans and Fun Lovin’ Criminals have all performed intimate shows at Hard Rock Cafe London – as well as amplify Absolute Radio’s commitment to delivering the best live music to its listeners.
