Glastonbury tickets sold out this week in just over four hours as thousands of fans flooded the website and phone lines. The tickets for 2011’s Glastonbury Festival sold out a massive eight hours quicker than the tickets for this year.
With 137,500 public tickets on sale and a capacity of 40,000 more than that you can imagine how swamped all ticket sales outlets were. Passes for next year’s festival are also £10 more expensive than this year’s tickets, which are now priced at £195.
The official website and Twitter feed for the festival apologised to the fans that missed out on tickets, stating there had been issues with getting through “due to the sheer volume of people”. Michael and Emily Eavis, the festival's organisers, said: “Thanks for all your continual support. We're looking forward to seeing those of you who got tickets next June.” With Emily Eavis adding: “Sorry those of you who waited on the lines but couldn't get tickets. Wish there was a way to fit everyone in.”
Mendip District Council has stated worries about overcrowding at the event in its annual report saying that “subjectively the site felt extremely busy”. But it added it was an “unqualified success” and that all recommendations were about building on good practice.
In other Glasto related news U2 have pointed out they have a gap in their touring schedule on the Friday night of the festival, which starts on 22nd June, so they may still headline after having to pull out this year.
Personally, I can’t stand U2… I tell a lie, it’s Bono I can’t stand. So it wouldn’t bother me if they were totally skipped over after bailing out this year. Bad back or not. Although, is Glastonbury the only festival to go on sale without even a hint at its line up? Completely sold out and no one knows who’s playing. It seems mad, but and Glasto goer will tell you, it’s easy to spend the weekend there totally busy without seeing a single band. A trip to Glastonbury should be on all your bucket lists!
Anyway, whether you got a ticket or not we have plenty to take you mind off it. We have interviews with Chiddy Bang, Love Amongst Ruin and Devil Sold His Soul.
