A social late-night opening with new commissioned music & soundscapes inspired by the exhibitions The Land Between Us and Intuition, and a screening of an Outsider Art documentary by Jarvis Cocker. Part of the Manchester Weekender
DJ Matthew Krysko and artist and gramophone DJ Naomi Kashiwagi (winners of this year's Umbro Industries award) perform a new collaborative DJ set using both modern turntables and wind-up gramophones. They will be turning the tables and winding it up for the weekend. Huw Bunford, guitarist and experimental music maker from Super Furry Animals also be performs a new commissioned sound composition made up of unexpected everyday sounds from the Whitworth. A different take on the art is provided by a rare screening of Journey into The Outside, a documentary about Outsider Art by Jarvis Cocker. Food & drink comes from the award winning Modern Caterer who premieres a Manchester Afternoon Tea: locally inspired dinky sandwiches, coconut scones with homemade strawberry jam and creme anglais, and tea (with with an optional dash of vanilla icecream!) served in 1950s crockery.
